Absolutely, including your dog in your wedding celebration is not just possible—it can be amazing! More and more couples are doing it, and it adds such a personal, joyful touch to the day. Plus, your dog is part of your family, so it makes total sense to include them.
Here are a few ways people include their pups in their weddings:
πΎ Roles Your Dog Can Play
- Ring
Bearer: Super cute, especially if your dog is calm and can walk down
the aisle.
- Flower
Pup: You can attach a small flower garland to their collar or harness.
- Dog
of Honor/Best Dog: Just like a maid of honor or best man, but
fluffier.
- Guest
of Honor: They can hang out in a cute outfit or bandana and be part of
the photos.
πΆ Tips for a Smooth
Experience
- Have
a designated dog handler: Someone your dog knows and trusts to watch
them throughout the event.
- Make
sure the venue is pet-friendly: Some places don’t allow animals,
especially indoors.
- Prep
for breaks: Quiet space, water, treats, maybe a nap spot away from the
noise.
- Dress
them smart but comfy: Tuxedo collars, floral crowns, bowties—but make
sure nothing is restrictive or itchy.
- Practice
ahead of time: If they’re walking down the aisle, do some rehearsals.
My opinion counts:
Okay, first of all—Barley is an adorable name. And he’s
cute too! Being a mini-Aussie x Border Collie" mix! Shannon and Cody have
one smart, loyal, and very photogenic little guy πΎ✨
The wedding venue is at the Stampede grounds and is such a cool place
too—modern and spacious with good energy. Since it’s indoors, we’ll just want
to double-check with the venue on their pet policy, but a lot of places will
make exceptions for well-behaved dogs (especially if they’re part of the
ceremony or photos).
π‘ Here are a few sweet
ways to include Barley that I sent my daughter!
1. Walk Down the Aisle with Him
He could walk with one of you, or with a special handler
(maybe someone he knows “Mum”), wearing a little tuxedo harness or a bowtie.
2. Ring Bearer
If Barley’s chill and comfortable walking calmly, you could
attach a ring pillow or a little pouch to his back/harness. Even if he doesn’t
carry the real rings (in case of a rogue zoomie), it’s super cute for photos.
3. Dog of Honour
Give him his own title! You could even include it in your
ceremony program. Something like:
"Dog of Honour: Barley, our most loyal boy and best
friend."
4. Photos & Portraits
Even if he’s not in the ceremony, he can totally steal the
show in your wedding portraits. Think matching floral accessories or a leash
that fits your wedding colors.
5. Reception Cameo
Depending on the venue and how late the reception goes, you
could have someone bring him by for a little while so he can greet guests, then
head home with a sitter.
πΆ Bonus Ideas
- Custom
signature cocktail: “The Barley-tini” or “Barley’s Brew”
- Cake
topper with all three of you
- A
Polaroid station with a sign like: “Barley says take a pic!”
- Barley
on the invite or wedding website!
We did this!
Conclusion:
It’s so beautiful π₯Ή — it totally makes
sense to include him if he’s such a big part of your lives. Weddings are about
love and family, and he is family. Including him will make your day even
more special and meaningful.
