Let’s work together: Who is Invited, Celebration Websites

When deciding who to invite to your wedding, it can be helpful to think about your ideal celebration. Consider your closest family, friends, and anyone who has played a significant role in your life. Here are some groups you might think about inviting:

  1. Immediate Family – Parents, siblings, and any children of siblings (if you plan to invite children).
  2. Close Friends – Those who have been there for you through thick and thin.
  3. Extended Family – Aunts, uncles, cousins, and others who are important to you.
  4. Work Colleagues – If you have a close relationship with them, you might want to invite them.
  5. Mutual Friends – People who are important to both you and your partner.

When it comes to children, many couples face the decision of whether to invite them. Here’s how you can approach it:

If You Do Want to Invite Children:

  • Be Specific on the Invitation – On the invitation itself, you can either state "and Family" to make it clear that children are welcome, or you can list the names of children specifically invited.
  • Offer a Kid-Friendly Option – If you're including kids, you might want to have a designated kid's area or activities to keep them entertained.

If You Do Not Want to Invite Children:

  • Be Polite and Clear – It’s important to be clear but tactful. Consider writing something like:
    • "Adult-Only Celebration" or "Due to venue restrictions, we are keeping the celebration adult-only."
    • “We love your little ones, but we’ve chosen to have an adult-only wedding celebration.”
  • Explain in a Personal Way – If you’re sending out invitations to family or close friends, it’s nice to add a personal note explaining why, especially if they are surprised or disappointed. For example, "We wanted to make this a romantic, grown-up event, and we hope you understand."

Other Tips:

  • Be Consistent – Make sure the same message is sent to everyone, whether it's through your invitation or word of mouth.
  • Consider a Separate Party – If you’re having an adult-only wedding, you could host a kids’ celebration or event another day to celebrate with children.
